Weekly Update 01/22/2018

Hello Jr Warriors families,

We had a great meet this weekend against SwimPro and Suburban. There were lots of best times and many good races…always fun to see! Our record now stands at 5-0. Our toughest meets are ahead of us, so we will be getting ready. Below is news for this week…

Swimmers of the Week – This week’s swimmers of the week are Nicky Kilmon, Charlie Fox, Caroline Rent and Elliot Mee. Nicky is new to the team this year. He comes to practice faithfully and is one of those swimmers who gets cold quite easily. Yet he swims through the shivering without ever complaining and is always eager to do whatever is next in practice. We recently learned that he has a killer breaststroke which he swam for the first time Saturday. His grit, determination and great attitude have made him a better swimmer and a pleasure to have in the pool. Charlie is also new to our team this year. On Saturday Charlie was extremely helpful in rounding up his teammates for the various 7/8 boys relays. When he learned that we could not find several of them he immediately offered to find them and didn’t stop until he did. He made sure every swimmer for every 7/8 boys relay was there and ready to go. It was great! Caroline is in our 9/10 age group but on Saturday we were short one 11/12 year old girl for the relays as we had some last minute illnesses. Caroline didn’t hesitate when asked and stepped up to lead off one of the 11/12 girls relay swimming a 50 instead of her normal 25 yards. She went at it with gusto and had a very, very fast 50 free. She really helped out the team! Elliot is new to the team this year and has improved tremendously this season. He comes to practice regularly, takes any suggestion to heart, and works incredibly hard with every set we do…and he does it with a smile. It all paid off on Saturday when he improved his 50 free by 5 seconds and his 50 back by 7 seconds. Congratulations Nicky, Charlie, Caroline and Elliot. You are all great examples to your teammates of hard work, dedication, teamwork and perseverance. You are true team players!

Practice Tuesday – Tuesday’s practice this week will be the same as always, but please be aware that there is a boys high school meet just before our practice. Our practice will happen at 5:00 pm so don’t let the fact that a meet is finishing up deter you!

Focus of the Week – This week we will be focusing on starts and finishes. Fast starts and fast finishes can make all the difference in a race. Ask your kids about it!

8th Grade Invitation – Families of 8th graders…please keep a look out this week for an email about an invitation from the high school team for Friday. Details to come!

They have a small parking lot at the pool or you can find street parking. Please just stay away from the “resident only” parking areas as they do tow. Timing is:
