Weekly Update 12/11/2017

Hello Jr Warriors families,

Another great meet Saturday against Thoreau. Our record now stands at 2-0. We had some fast times…a true testament to the hard work we are seeing from the kids at practice. We have a schedule change for Tuesday, so please read on for that and other news!!

Swimmers of the Week – This week’s swimmers of the week are Luke Kroncke, Fiona White, Eden Jones and Ryan Flathers. Luke and Fiona arrived early to the meet Saturday and didn’t hesitate to help with meet set up when asked. The two of them set up the entire bullpen complete with numbers on the benches! This isn’t the first time they have helped…sometimes they organize the timer sheets, staple meet programs, and so on. They always have a positive attitude and help wherever needed. At the meet Saturday we had a 13/14 year old girl who got sick right before the relay. As we reconfigured the relay at the last minute, we asked Eden (12) to switch relays and swim with the 13/14 relay. She didn’t hesitate. When her cap broke just before the relay, she made do and borrowed a cap from a friend. Eden’s positive attitude and willingness to do what was needed for the team was great! Ryan has been working incredibly hard in practice. He comes consistently, gives it his all while he is in the pool, and doesn’t complain. His work is paying off…his times dropped several full seconds in both his IM and breaststroke Saturday. Well deserved improvements! Luke, Fiona, Eden and Ryan are excellent examples to their teammates of hard work, dedication, a positive attitude, and a willingness to do what is needed for the team. Congratulations!!

Practice Time Change Tuesday – Just a reminder that due to a high school swim meet, there is a change in the practice schedule this Tuesday, Dec. 12th:
6 & unders – NO PRACTICE
7/8s – NO PRACTICE
9/10s & 6th grade – 6:30 pm-7:30 pm
7th & 8th grade – 7:30 pm-8:30 pm
Practice will be back to regularly scheduled times on Thursday. Thanks for your flexibility!

Focus of the Week – We will continue our focus on butterfly this week and will add working on finishes as well. Finishing hard into the wall is key in all races. Ask your kids about it!

Upcoming Meets – Our next meet is January 6th. Enjoy a few free Saturdays!

Holiday Schedule – Our last regular practice before vacation is Thursday, Dec. 21st. We will have a few optional practices during vacation…stay tuned for the schedule!

Respect for Our Facility – During the meet on Saturday there was a point in the back hallway where snow balls were being thrown (yes…inside), macaroni and cheese was spilled and left to be stepped on, and general shenanigans were taking place. It seems that a group of 9/10 and 11/12 boys were responsible. Yesterday I spoke to all the kids age 9 and up about appropriate behavior at the community pool and I will do so again this week. As I said to the kids, a lot of people work very, very hard to keep the facility up and running. Everyone needs to respect the facility. Please remind your kids of appropriate behavior at the community pool.

Videos and Pictures – Just a reminder that it is a league rule that no videos or pictures are allowed to be taken from behind the blocks. You are welcome to film your kids from the sides or other end of the pool. Thanks for your help with this!

That is it for this week! See you at the pool!
